The Practical test

So, you passed your theory test - Congratulations, well done. Hopefully, you have a little driving practice already which you have done while studying for your theory.

You have two years from the date of your theory pass in which to pass your practical test otherwise, you must resit your theory test. Keep on with your driving practice and I will book your practical test when you are ready. The current cost of the weekday practical test is £62 and the test centre is in Darlington.

The Day of your Driving Test

On the day of your test, I will pick you up from wherever you wish around an hour before your test, this is to put you in a good frame of mind for driving, if there is anything you want to do in that hour we can practice that, otherwise just drive as you normally would and we will arrive at the test centre around ten minutes prior to the time of your appointment.

The examiner will come out of the office and call out your name, they will ask to see your documents as requested in the confirmation email that you will have received from the DSA, these are as follows:

• Your driving licence, BOTH parts (Photo card and paper counterpart) Please be sure these have your up to date address!

• Your theory test pass certificate.

• I would also bring with you your letter of confirmation from the DSA.

The examiner will then ask you to read a number plate, as I will have done on your first lesson (from 20m, 20.5 for the old style plate).

The Actual Driving Test

Having walked to the car, you will be asked two of the "show me, tell me" questions which I will provide you with and go over with you during your lessons. The driving part of your test will then begin, try and relax, the examiner does not WANT to fail you and contrary to any story you may have heard, they do not have a quota of passes or fails that they must accomplish.

If you drive for about 40 minutes, completing one of the manoeuvres that we will have practiced, around 10 minutes of independent driving (following signs/ directions), and possibly a controlled stop as in the case of an emergency, and commit no serious or dangerous faults, and less than 16 minor faults, then you will pass your test.

If you pass your test the examiner will give you a certificate and take your licence to send for a full one. Congratulations, let me wish you many years of safe driving to come, thank you for choosing sureway to fulfill your driving needs. I have only one small thing to ask in return, please recommend me to your friends, family and anyone who may wish to learn safe driving for life just like you did.
